SOLID WASTE
REGULATORY OFFICE
The Regulatory Component is to enforce,
monitor the production, collection,
transportation, and disposal of solid waste and
hazardous waste on the land of the Tohono
O’odham Nation. The Compliance Inspectors
can issue citation of violators of the Tohono
O’odham Nation Solid Waste Code.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF
THE REGULATORY OFFICE:
- Environmental Justice
- Development of Solid Waste Laws for presentation to the Legislative Council for approval
- Issue permits for collection, transportation, storage, and disposal of Solid/Hazardous Waste
- Regulate Permittees
- Investigations of reported Violations of the Solid Waste Code
- Wildcat (illegal) dumping Investigations
- Hazardous Materials, Mold, Asbestos, Lead Testing and Abatement Oversite
- Dump Closures Oversight
- Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Oversight
- Demolition of Buildings Oversight
- Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Oversight
- Solid Waste Management Department Oversight
- Issue notice of violations to site law breakers of the Solid Waste Code
